Public Comments to USDA and HHS
The 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee submitted its scientific report to the Secretaries of the USDA and HHS in June 2020. After the Committee’s scientific report was publicly available online, the Departments opened a public comment period to accept written public comments on the Scientific Report of the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. This 30-day public comment period closed on August 13, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The Departments received more than 38,000 written comments on the scientific report.
As USDA and HHS developed the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025, the Departments considered the Committee’s scientific report along with input from federal agencies and public comments.
Oral Comment Meeting
On August 11, 2020, USDA and HHS hosted a virtual meeting to hear oral comments from the public on the Scientific Report of the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. During this meeting, 73 individuals provided oral comments to the Departments.
